Chair of The Superpower Institute (TSI), Rod Sims, today welcomed Jessica Shaw as the Institute’s Program Director for Western Australia.

Launched in April 2023, chaired by former ACCC Chair Rod Sims and founded by leading Australian economist Ross Garnaut, the Superpower Institute was created to help Australia seize the immense economic opportunities of the post-carbon world.

Jessica Shaw recently retired as the Parliamentary Secretary to the WA Premier and Minister for State and Industry Development, Jobs and Trade, and Member for Swan Hills, a seat she held since 2017. Prior to entering parliament Ms Shaw held commercial, government and academic roles, including deep experience in a variety of energy and industry sectors.

“We are delighted to welcome Jessica,” said Rod Sims, Chairman of the Superpower Institute.

“Her experience in the energy sector and recently within government demonstrate her passion and commitment to the energy transition and decarbonising industry. This expertise will be an asset to TSI in helping Australia, and specifically Western Australia, embrace an enormous green export opportunity.”

TSI CEO, Baethan Mullen said: “Western Australia has a big role to play in the superpower opportunity. Jessica understands the challenges and the incredible long-term opportunity. We are thrilled to have her aboard, helping us establish Australia’s role in a zero carbon world.”

Commenting on her appointment, Jessica Shaw said: “This is an exciting opportunity, at an important time. Western Australia can play a central role in the nation’s clean energy future and superpower industries. My goal in leaving Parliament was to find a role where I could dedicate myself to pursuing these ends. TSI’s ambition and work is a great fit.”

Ms Shaw will commence with TSI from 10 March, spending half her time in the role with TSI and half her time in other aligned activities.
